Kuća Skala is latest finished project. It is a house that is also part of the umbrella project Kuća.

Conceptually this house resonates its surrounding not just by the materials and periodically but the functional aspect of stairs is taken as the concept to mirror the notion of the little town surrounding it. Novigrad is a hilly town where the basic unit of distance is measured as one stair, rather than step or a meter.

The stairs are given more space and act as an interactive, conversational sculpture rather than closed functional system within a house. Their aesthetics visually cause sensation of disbalance and almost fragility contrasting the strength of the steel they are made of. Arrhythmic notion of gaps and differently weighed sections or blocks of multiple steps invite various compositions, visually but also of type of interaction.

The house is an open plan, loft type space but broken into four plus levels. These are, apart of toilet and small storage space, not separated with doors so that all non tangible spatial elements resonates through the whole house instantly.

The concept for the house has developed itself from the actual working on the house as well as looking into the history of the house itself. Everything in the house is hand made, single piece design, just for this house. In this respect, every object relates to the one neighbouring conceptually as well as with material and form.

This house is a first one that was developed without me being an owner. However important is to stress the fact that the owners went with this story of house as it was developing rather than accepting the defined concept prior the beginning of the works on the house. This way their participation in the retelling of a new story became also relational and dependent of the site specific and time specific frame.

In front of the house, belonging to the house, there is a plot right next to the town clock tower. This space was used to build a pavilion type structure. Its a larch wood pavilion with glass floor and furniture. The structure is light and put together with wooden pins. Its fragile presence contrasts the massive stone vertical objects/houses surrounding it.
